About Bussing at EIA

Can I park anywhere on the school campus?

No. During regular school drop off/pick-up timings, parents are assigned one parking lot which is in the back side of the school.  Visitor parking is available in the front side of the school which parents can use when having to enter the school after or before the regular school drop off/pick-up timings.

What are your school day timings?

This is specific to your child’s grade level:

  • Morning Kindergarten: 8:15am – 11:30am
  • Afternoon Kindergarten: 12:30 – 3:30pm
  • Grades 1 – 12: 8:15am – 3:30pm
  • Every Thursday, all EIA students are dismissed at 2:00pm

Do you have a late pick-up program or policy at your school for working parents?

Students are supervised until 4:00pm (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), and until 2:30pm (on Thursdays) in the cafeteria. If a student is not picked up within 30 minutes after school is dismissed, the child’s parent or guardian will be charged an automatic late pick-up fee of $2.00 per minute thereafter. However, we understand that unforeseen events do happen and if a parent is expecting to be late to pick up their child you may notify the school beforehand to alert us that you will be late to pick up your child or that you will arrange for someone to pick up your child on that particular day. For these unplanned circumstances, you will not be charged the late fee at a maximum of 3 times per month. If you require after/before school care, please refer to this link for more information: https://alrashidmosque.ca/early-childhood-education/.

Do you offer a lunch program?

Yes, we do have a cafeteria.  A weekly menu is provided weekly via email. However, Kindergarten to Grade 2 students do not have access to the cafeteria.

Is the food sold in your cafeteria halal?

Yes it is.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes. Our uniform supports and builds decorum, and reinforces that we are a community. It also teaches our students that our focus should be not on our attire but on how we strive to become a better person each and every day.

Where can we purchase uniform items from?

Some items such as the girls' hijabs are available at the school.  All other clothing items worn to school must be uniform issued items from McCarthy Uniforms Inc  www.mccarthyuniforms.ca | 1-800-668-8261.

How many pairs of shoes do I need for my child?

  • One pair of plain black leather, non-marking shoes for daily wear with uniform
  • One pair of gym runners (for indoor use only)
  • Weather appropriate outdoor footwear for wear to and from school and during recess and lunch breaks.

Does my child need a gym kit?

Only children in grades 6-12 change for gym classes. Children in grades K-5 only change their shoes.

Do the gym runners have to be completely white or can they have some color on them?

They can be any color as long as they have non-marking soles.

How long are the entrance tests?

They vary depending on grade level.  Kindergarten and Grade 1 (1/2 hour), Grade 2 (1 hour), Grades 3-6 (2 hours), Grades 7-12 (3 hours).

Do we receive the results of the entrance exams, if so, approximately how much time after the test is written should we expect to receive them and the status of our application?

Yes, parents will be notified by phone about their child’s exam results and acceptance status approximately 2 weeks from the date the test was written.

Where do I go on the first day of school?

Doors will open from 8:00am – 8:30am. This includes the front doors, gym doors, high school doors, and the KG doors. All other doors will remain locked.

Kindergarten: KG students are expected to enter KG doors and head straight to their classroom. Class lists will be posted outside the KG doors and teachers and educational assistants will be there to welcome your children. PM KG students can expect the same routine once they arrive in the afternoon.

Grade 1: The class lists for Grade 1 will be posted in the gym. Please head over to the gym to find your child’s class. Once you have identified your child’s homeroom, please proceed to the assigned classroom where you will find your child’s classroom teacher there to welcome you and your child.

Grade 2- 6: The class lists will be posted in the gym. Please head over to the gym to find your child’s class. Once you have identified your child’s homeroom, please proceed to the atrium and look for your child’s homeroom teacher. Each homeroom teacher will be holding up a sign of their class number (ie, 3D) to make locating them easier for all. Your child should line up with their homeroom teacher. At 8:30am, all elementary teachers will escort their students to their new classroom. No students are permitted to enter classrooms prior to their teacher escorting them at 8:30am so be sure to meet in the atrium.

Grades 7-9: Class lists can be located in the cafeteria. Once students have identified their homeroom, they will be asked to head over to their new classrooms where the homeroom teacher will be waiting to greet them. Mr. Dalloul will be in the cafeteria to assist you and various staff will secure the halls to ensure students are assisted in finding their classrooms safely and efficiently.

High School: Students are asked to head over to the high school lounge on the second floor. Schedules and classroom information will be posted in the lounge and a teacher will be present to assist you. Once students identify where to go, they will be asked to head over to the classroom. Teachers will be in their classrooms awaiting the arrival of their students. Students can expect high school courses to formally begin shortly after 8:30am so it is integral for them to come to class prepared to learn.

At 9:00am, teachers will escort their students to the atrium where we will engage in our first morning duaa’ of the year. For every other day of the year, the morning duaa’ will take place at 8:15am in the atrium. Our goal is to ensure that all students are making it to school in time to participate in this morning recitation. We encourage parents to join us in making this daily duaa’ a priority for your children. Please note that attendance at the morning duaa’ will be recorded.

Can you tell me who my child’s teacher is before the first day of school?

No, all students will learn who their teachers are on the first day of school and not before.

Can I request a specific teacher for my child?

No, preferred teacher requests will not be considered as teachers and administrators put a great deal of time and energy into class placements and we cannot accommodate such requests.

Does my child wear his/her formal uniform or non-formal uniform on the first day of school?

Yes, all students are required to wear the ‘formal’ uniform on the first day of school, and every Friday for Jumma prayer.

What if my child does not have their complete uniform for the first day of school?

To avoid this, please ensure that your uniform order is placed by the deadline set by McCarthy Uniforms Inc https://www.mccarthyuniforms.ca/. McCarthy Uniforms Inc uniforms are dedicated to making sure every child has the appropriate uniform for the start of school. Children will worry if they do not have their complete uniform on the first day of school; however, in the case of late acceptances, new students simply need to let their teacher know that their uniform is on the way and they will be excused from a uniform infraction for that day.

Can my child use the cafeteria on the first day of school?

Yes.

Is the office open during the summer to drop off payment and forms?

Yes, the school office is open from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Monday to Friday during the summer months.
